Statement of Unity – A Public Reading
In the wake of recent protests and riots due to violence toward black Americans, a group of Bay County clergy and Christian leaders (black and white), including Pastor Craig Carter of the Lynn Haven Methodist, have joined together to discuss how to move forward as a Christian community. Together, the group crafted a Statement of Unity as an affirmation of the importance of Black American lives and livelihood, and many additional Bay County pastors and Christian leaders have added their signatures. The LEAD Coalition of Bay County is organizing a public reading of the Statement June 18 at 10 am at Sheffield Park in Lynn Haven.
Members of the Lynn Haven Methodist and all people of faith are encouraged to attend Thursday’s public reading event. In addition to Pastor Craig, many Bay County clergy and other Christian leaders who have signed the Statement will participate in the public reading. Following Thursday’s event, the full text of the Statement of Unity will be posted on the LEAD Coalition’s website and social media pages.
The clergy and leaders who have signed the Statement of Unity desire to exemplify Christian character, demonstrate Christian unity, and obey Christ’s command to love one another, undivided by ethnicity, denomination, or class in society.
